A couple of foods that keep me faithful to my weight loss program

Everyone has those foods that take you off the path of weight loss victory.  We love them and we hate them.  Here are a few of the foods that keep me in the place of victory.  Except one, one of them is a very healthy treat that I just can’t handle in moderation.  Hope you enjoy checking out these foods and maybe they can help you too (maybe they already do) 🙂

FruitFruit- I used to hate it, but now I love it.  It is filling and usually pretty low in points for the quantity/weight of the food.  I try to eat more seasonal fruits if I can and I sometimes get crazy and splurge on more exotic types.  Check out the Fruit pages to learn all about fruit.

toraniTorani Sugar Free syrup– (Free)  I use this for my coffee but there are many ways you can use this stuff.  Just check out the website for neat recipes.  I like the hazelnut and vanilla.  It is a good “free” substitute for other coffee flavorings and creamers.

Jiffy PopJolly Time Healthy Pop 94% fat free  (big bag)-   (2.5 pts)I love this stuff.  It is pretty cheap as far as points go and you get a pretty good amount.  I can eat this and be satisfied for a good amount of time (30 seconds or so, just kidding).  If I want to spice it up a little, I spray the butter spray on it with salt and pepper.

Hebrew National FranksHebrew National 97% Fat Free Beef Franks-  (1 pts)I know some of you might think these are gross but they are a staple of mine.  I eat them almost everyday with a low cal. hotdog bun.  It is 3 points with the bun.  It may be weird but this is a normal breakfast for me at work coupled with a yogurt.  I love beef.

NutsPlanters NUTrition nuts- (4 pts) Ok, about these nuts, they drive me NUTS.  I love them but I just can’t keep my hands off of them.  They are really good for you and provide your WW oils and essential fats.  It is just to high a points value for me to have around as a snack.  I packs 4 points per serving (1 oz or approx. 27 nuts) and the serving of course is not that big.  I love ’em, I hate ’em.

YoplaitYoplait Light/ Thick and Creamy- (2 pts) This is my favorite yogurt, all of the flavors. There are other yogurts that have fewer points, but my wife got me hooked on these and I eat some everyday as part of my WW dairy/milk.  I also use it in different desserts as you can see from a previous post.

Buter sprayI can’t believe it’s not butter spray– (Pretty much free)  I use this spray religiously.  I put it on my dinner veggies every night.  I can definitely believe that it’s not butter, but it is something.  I have heard that a certain amount of sprays does end up being a point or two but I have never counted the sprays.  It works for me.

So these are some of my normal, everyday foods that keep me on track.  I will do another post at some point showing you some more of the others.  Have a great day everyone and thanks for coming by.

I put up a “Favorites” page at my site to list exactly these types of (low point) food products that actually taste good. There are so many out there making dietary claims that really don’t taste good and/or aren’t really healthy or low calorie. I personally don’t care for most fat-free products, and I despise the taste of artificial sugar, so it’s a little harder for me to find things. But, they do exist and I will continue to look for them!!

I love fruit! I can eat bowls of it no problem! Haha!

  3. January 24, 2009 at 7:39 am

I was wondering on the syrup if they use artificial sweeteners in it and I was also wondering what your opinion is on artificial sweeteners?

Thank you for this list. It will be very useful.

Yes they use Splenda. I hear that splenda uses real sugar some how but I really don’t know about it that much. I use sweet n low all the time. My opinion of artificial sweetners is that I think of them very highly. I like them, I am not afraid of them giving me cancer or hurting me in any way, I think they work great, and I used at least 3 packets a day in my coffee not counting the stuff that is in the syrup.

Fruits are a staple for sure! I heard about a potential member who attended a WW orientation meeting and left because she refused to eat fruits and vegetables. That is too bad, really.

It is too bad especially when you don’t really have to eat them. I figure, if that person was to stick with WW and just decide not to eat the fruits and veggies, they would begin to lose weight simply because of sticking with the points. At some time down the road they would get hungry and wonder what they can eat for low low points. Veggies may come to mind and then they might start to eat them. I could go for months and months without them before but I now know that they are so benificial. Thanks a lot

I love fruit but before ww, I ate it in excess. I guess I love the natural sugar in the fruit. Now I only eat 1 or 2 fruits a day and eat a ton a veggies since the veggies have less points and I can fill up with veggies. Fruit is really great when your blood sugar is low and you need some energy.

There were times for me way a long time ago when I was like 14-15 yrs. when I over ate on fruit. Veggies are essential fillers for me too. THanks for your contribution

Your comment about I Can’t Believe it’s Not Butter” spray:

“I can definitely believe that it’s not butter, but it is something.” I got a good laugh out of that.

This product is definitely popular with ww members. If some people are not that into butter flavoring, check out Kernal Season’s Nacho Cheddar and White Cheddar popcorn seasoning on my air popcorn and veggies and it is delicious and is pretty much no points unless you use half the container.

I now bring about 2 cups of steamed veggies to work with me and this flavoring instead of eating a frozen ww meal for lunch so I now have 5 extra points to use at dinner which is nice. That quantity of veggies is really filling and the seasoning makes them taste really good.

I’m getting concerned that I’m becoming a groupie to your blog, but I just tried your yogurt, pudding and banana mixture that you mentioned in your Yoplait link. It’s quite good and very large when you mix it all together! Next time I try it I’ll put one point’s worth of some low or nonfat whipping cream on it and I’ll be in heaven.

Don’t worry about that there Candice. You are welcome here anytime and as many times as you want. Enjoy yourself here. Learn something if there is anything you can learn from. I love that yogurt thing to and it does get much larger after you put it all together.

I am so glad you posted this. I had been wondering “what does this guy eat to be so successful”? Now I know. I agree with you.. I tried EVERY single one of the yogurts on the market and I second it that the thick and creamy is by far the BEST!! It makes all the others seem like they are too watery!! I have always loved the feeling of thick and creamy. It’s just so much more satisfing all together.
Love your blog too btw. 🙂

I wish you would have commented yesterday :). I decided to try a different kind, I think it is Dannon Light and tasty or something like that. It most certainly confirmed what you are saying. Thick and creamy baby. It is the best, the same points, and it just feels desserty in your mouth. I am glad that you like the blog and I really appreciate your contribution here. Thanks Colette

I’m nearly embarrassed to admit that I’ve never thought seriously about foods that help me stay on the wagon. My focus has been on the ones that get me off the wagon. What a great post. I will definitely consider what the friend-foods are and focus a little more on those friendships. 🙂

Very good idea. It has helped me a lot to be close to the foods that love me (foods that help me stay on track) 🙂

    Hey there,

I don’t know if you reply back on the older post but I thought I would try anyway. I have added all of these to my daily routine witht eh exception of the syrup. (balck coffee guy) Would it be possible to have you continue to post your new finds because I would love to find more helful foods. You are right, what a differecne it makes to focus on the foods that you can have that help to keep you on plan vs the ones that you crave that hog your points.

    Have a nice day.

I have also done several posts on the different dinners that I have made. If you do a search on the blog for “dinner’ you will come up with them. I will also try to do more posts like this because i get a lot of good feedback on them. Thanks again Mike.

I will do the search. I saw you your Tilapia and the gang post the other night. My wife does not like most seafood so this one will be a bit tougher in the short run but it was a ton of food. Gotta have good size portions or you feel like you are going without and that is no fun.

HUGE PORTIONS!! HAHAHAHA. I love ’em. I used to eat at this place for breakfast. 6 egg omlettes, pizza pan of hash browns, oh the memories oh the memories. Not anymore though. 🙂

Yeah tell me about it. I love a good feed. I am still getting used to smaller portions of great food but not my go to favorites so that is why the low point big portion posts are killer. My wife made chicken enchildas and black beans that were fantastic and big filling portions, she is magic. She makes killer Salsa from scratch, really fresh and the bonus is that the salsa makes for a great egg white chili for breakfast.

    Have a great night.

I ate chicken enchiladas tonight after my weigh in. I love salsa too and eat a lot of it all the time. I eat it right when I get home by itself to get a little fill before dinner.
