I am going to attempt to break the Marathon World Record Personal Record for my 13 th marathon this Sunday. I am going to try and run a sub 4 hour marathon. My previous best is 4:06 and I did that in my 12th marathon last month. I will be running my 13th marathon in the Leprechaun Marathon. My running coach has really helped me believe in my ability to run faster than I once thought would ever be possible for me. I know I can do it. I have to run an average pace of a 9:09 minute mile for 26.2 miles in order to break 4 hours. I need to run a 9:22 pace to break my personal record but I am just to extreme for that. I am going for the sub 4 hour. The main reason for this post is to show off my playlist for this record breaking attempt. Now don’t make fun. HAHAHA. It is mostly 80’s music with a couple of new alternative songs that my wife and I really like. It is generally happy and energetic music. Since this marathon allows Ipods, headphones, etc. I am going to take advantage of the peppy music. So here it is. Make sure you take the poll and watch the real Marathon World Record finish at the end of the post.My Record Breaking Marathon Playlist is 3.9 hours long. The song that is bolded is the song that the Marathon World Record holder would be listening to when he finished. It happens to be Whip it by Devo

That is a pretty good variety of music and sorry but I got a chuckle out of some of your suggestions, mainly because they are some of my favorites as well. What i like about the 80’s music is it has a good beat to exercise to and really can get you gong at a better pace than some of today’s music. I especially like the “safety Dance” and “Chariots of Fire”. All are very good choices. I am impressed how you choreographed all your music with the timing of your race.
So what will your training be like leading up to your record breaking marathon? Plus do you do anything special the day before or is that a chill out day? I am sure with the pace that you have set you will break your previous record. I have to give you credit, at least you do have records to break. My best to you this coming week leading up to this marathon. Go get em dude…
My training this week is my standard training. This is different than most marathon training as I would be in a taper (loweing milage to recover before race) now for at least one week. I cannot taper like most others right now because this week and it’s marathon are actually just normal training for my 40 mile ultra-marathon on May 2nd. So I have to go into this marathon tired and not fully recovered in order to get the proper training effect for the ultra where I will have to keep pushing on very tired legs. So if my legs are a bit used up when I start this marathon it will mimic the reality of running in the 40 miler a little bit. Saturday I will not exercise at all. I do plan however to be very active on Saturday as I am going to be planting around 29 trees for my landscape.
You need New Kids on the Block. 😉
Seriously. Love your playlist. Music makes me happy.
Can’t wait to see your marathon results!
Thanks Amy. Music is an important little aspect of my life. i love it.
GOOD LUCK!
Also, I like k-os Born to Run. Check it out.
Thanks p4. I will check that out here in a minute 🙂
Awesome, dude. I will checkout these songs and maybe add them to my playlist. Good luck with your marathon! You will do great, I know.
Little miss, nice to “see” you. Thanks for your encouragement. These are a bunch of fun songs.
I like MGMT and Death Cab. Those are the only two songs on your playlist I would listen to, and only the MGMT one for exercising. Death Cab is more of a band you would listen to while relaxing or taking a bath. Guess we have different tastes in music :).
Hey thanks for coming over and leaving a comment Tony. This is just a tiny cross-section of what I like. I wanted something new and fresh “for me”, to do this marathon with.
I love this playlist, it’s so awesome! 🙂
Hope the race this weekend is great, I know you can do a sub 4-hour!
-Rebecca
Thank you for your love of the playlist. It makes me feel goooooood 🙂
WOW, my husband is totally shocked that someone other than me knows these songs! He’s been teasing me incessantly because I bought tickets to see Depeche Mode in August. I love all of that New Wave stuff and my ipod is full of it. Two suggestions, add “Love Will Tear us Apart” by Joy Division and “Big Country” by Big Country. Can’t wait for you to break your record!
Thanks for the suggestions. I wil check those out. HAve a great day and thanks for stopping by Jen
How about some Village People as well. 🙂 By the way thanks for your comment. I did post a response to it over there and if you have any more question just ask away.
I’ll check it out
Hi, thanks for these! I am in need for new tunes!
You are so very welcome Moran.
I would have guessed that you are a decade or so younger than I am, but after seeing this 80’s alternative & pop stuff, now I’m not so sure!!
Maggieapril- I am 33 years old. HAHAHA Thanks for the comment. I really appreciate your comments and the fact that you keep on a comin back
Hey, run well this weekend–I’ll be thinking of you! May you have wings on your feet, music in your ears, and hope in your heart!
Can’t wait to read the race report!
Thank you for your support my running friend. I hope all goes well. It is according to the weather report supposed to be in the upper 30’s with rain.
I have just weaned myself off of my iPod!!!
I ran the half last Sunday without … for the first time ever.
I really enjoyed interacting with the other runners and all the characters at Disney.
I don’t think I’ll be going back to the iPod.
Hey, GOOD LUCK THIS WEEKEND!!!
🙂
I only use my ipod on this course. This marathon will only have about 40 runners so I will be completely alone for almost the whole race. In marathons like Portland, etc. and all of the ultras I never use the Ipod. I feel like it some how reduces the amount of pain and suffering thereby minimizing my sense of endurance if that makes any sense whatsoever. HAHAHAHA
Nice play list. I just downloaded a bunch of 80s music a couple of weeks ago. There are some good lists here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Like_Omigod!_The_80s_Pop_Culture_Box_(Totally) and here http://www.afn.org/~afn30091/80songs.html . Good luck w/ getting below 4 hours in your marathon. What time does the race start on Sunday? I’ll send prayers and good vibes your way.
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner charles. the comment went to the spam box. maybe cause the links. Your comments never went there before. I love your comment by the way. I will check those lists out because I like that music quite a bit.
We are all anxious awaiting the results of last weekends Race???!!!! You are a real inspiration. I’m forwarding your website to our coach who is training for an ultra right now and also doing WW. Thanks!!
I already finished the marathon in 3:58:23. THank you so much for stopping by and leaving a comment. i appreciate that greatly Kathy
